Shelter Gallery Artist Profile 01: Johnny McCormack
Posted:
With The Shelter Gallery in full swing, we thought we would profile each designer involved over the coming weeks. First up, we have featured photographer Johnny McCormack.
Having been a professional photographer for nearly two decades, McCormack is a regular contributor to a variety of local and international publications. While travelling the world extensively, he has created and captured some of the snow industry's most iconic images.
McCormack began his photographic career in early 2000 after graduating with a Bachelor of Design, majoring in photography, from Victoria University School of Design. Now based in Auckland, he also works as a Senior Designer and Art Director.
The series we're lucky enough to be exhibiting, Homecoming, stems from the 'out takes' whilst travelling internationally to shoot commercial and editorial work for over a period of 16 consecutive winters. Being far from home, finding solace adrift in strange and incongruous territories, places of wonder and curiosity - he attempts a sense of belonging through his lens while living and operating within transient circumstances. The featured landscapes are places of retreat and pilgrimage - for the viewer, potentially to also find a way to return home.
All photographs are archival pigment prints on Ilford Galerie gold fibre silk and framed with 5mm Kapa mount and Artglass preservation grade anti reflective glass.
All works are available to purchase in store only, at The Shelter, 78 Mackelvie Street, Ponsonby, Auckland.
