The Shelter by Taylor: Dunedin

Welcome to our new Dunedin home.

It’s officially been a month since we opened the doors to our Otago flagship, and our first Shelter in the South Island. A space where art, creativity and culture converge for those seeking and extraordinary shopping experience.

To compliment our taylor range, The Shelter by Taylor offers a curated range of artistic and avant-garde brands from Uma Wang, Symetria, and Puro Shoes, alongside New Zealand labels Masami, Thyen, Pera may and artisan jeweller Kevin Thorne.

Situated at the site of a former 40s clothing factory, The Shelter by taylor, brings fashion back to 41 Filleul Street, breathing new life into the corner shop. The retail design, brought to life by Creative Director Vicki Taylor, is a take on minimalism, perfectly reflecting the dark and sophisticated aesthetic of our DNA. Vicki worked to blend elements of local steelwork, and natural influences, that mirror our Auckland store, whilst having its own identity.

The new store promises to be more than just a shopping destination, to become a community and style hub where clients can connect and express their individuality.

When Vicki Taylor first began exploring the idea of a new location, “Walking the streets of a city is the best research you can do. You get a feel for the locals, the energy. The hustle and bustle of the coffee shop around the corner, the creative hubs that can only be found on foot. In Dunedin, you are hard-pressed to find a corner that doesn’t celebrate a unique point of view,” says Taylor, “We have an amazing client base in the South Island. When popping into our stores around the country, they always mentioned they’d love to see us closer to home. From the moment we visited, we knew we would return with more permanence one day. Dunedin is brimming with inspiration. I find myself captivated by the interplay of architectural beauty and contemporary vision, creating the perfect blend of old and new. Since its inception, The Shelter has always played on that vision, which will now translate into our new Filleul Street location.”
